Less than 24 hours later, no fewer than 15 people had asked if they could join us the next time we went to Music Bingo at Flying Heart Brewing & Pub in Natchitoches. None of us had been able to stop talking about how much fun we’d had and when we’d go back.
It was the first visit to Flying Heart for each of us. Tim, Emma, Brennon, and I met up at the popular pizza pub for dinner and bingo. But it wasn’t just any bingo. This was MUSIC BINGO, and if a song came on that you loved, you didn’t even care if it was on your card or not because you were too busy singing and dancing along.
At least until you had just one spot on your blackout card left and watched your niece mark off seven songs in a row to steal the victory right out from under your nose. But wait a minute! I’m getting ahead of myself.
While Flying Heart offers traditional and specialty pizzas, they also have plenty of other menu items. We tried a little bit of everything: candied bacon wings, mini meat pies, pepperoni rolls, specialty craft beers and root beer, and two specialty pizzas.
The food was great but was the background to our bingo skills. We all had our specialties and rarely needed to consult with the game-legal Shazam. Tim excelled in all the 80s hits. I’d give the DJ a dirty look when he’d cut off a 90s country song I was just starting to belt out. Brennon had no particular genre—he loved them all.
And yet Emma won!
I couldn’t even be mad. She won with a song from my fave teenage heyday band: AC/DC. I think everybody at the table realized she’d won before she did!
The blackout round—the third and final of the evening—came with a $50 gift card prize!
I don’t know what those prizes were because I DIDN’T WIN.
But did I lose?
I’d certainly say not, as I had one of the best evenings I’ve had in months. 80s rock, 00s country…and in between a little Spice Girls!
I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want…
I want to go back to Music Bingo at Flying Heart.
