APPLE PASTRY WRAP

Whether you’re having friends over for a coffee klatch or looking for something to awe a get together, this is the perfect touch! And so easy to make. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Regular or Grands Crescent Rolls
  • 2 Large Apples (Granny Smith best)
  • Sugar
  • Corn Starch
  • Lemon juice
  • Cinnamon
  • 1 egg
  • Powdered sugar
  • Vanilla extract
  • Milk
  • Parchment paper

Directions:

  • Preheat oven at 375 degrees

Filling:

  • 2 Large apples (Granny Smith are best to use) peeled, core removed and sliced
  • ¾ cups water
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 ½ teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Pastry:

  • Take Crescent Roll package out of refrigerator and set aside.
  • Put all filling ingredients into medium sauce pan cook until apples are tender. Set aside.
  • Take Crescent Rolls out of package and roll out on parchment paper. Press all seams together to form one piece of pastry.  Using knife, cut slits approximately 1” wide at an angle on both long sides of pastry. The last 3 strips from end reverse angle. Leaving the center uncut for filling.
  • Put filling down the middle of the prepared pastry.
  • Braid the strips over the filling crisscrossing them until the end.
  • And secure all the ends to prevent mixture from leaking out.
  • Once the ends have been secured,.
  • Lift pastry with parchment paper onto baking sheet Egg Wash • Whisk egg and water together
  • Brush egg wash over the wrapped pastry to make a golden crust.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden
  • Remove and cool on rack.  (I leave mine on parchment while cooling)

Glaze:

  • Put powdered sugar, vanilla and milk into a small bowl and stir.  If you need to thicken glaze add a bit more powdered sugar or to thin down add small amount of milk.
  • Using spoon drizzle over the cooled pastry.

** Hints:

If you are in a pinch for time you can substitute canned pie filling.

You can also make any fruit pie filling you like to fill the pastry. All are delicious!

Your can use Grands Crescent Rolls if you like a thicker pastry. May take a bit longer to bake.
