Next Era
Young people have a hard enough time as it is between high school and figuring themselves out, peer pressure can make things even harder. At times, dealing with stress can lead young people to find unhealthy ways of coping. Nearly one in four teens has tried tobacco products and the CDC has deemed ALL tobacco products unsafe for individuals in that age group.
Next Era provides a safe space to empower young people to create meaningful change in their communities. Members of a Next Era group work with staff on anything ranging from projects to pieces of training to events. A Next Era group will sometimes even work on a conference or presentation to inform their communities. is creating the next generation of tobacco-free leaders. Healthier Air for All
Does visiting a bar or casino leave your nose leaky, shirt smelly, and throat itchy? When you’re just going into an establishment to play darts or the slot machine and end up with the smell of smoke clinging to your clothes, it can be frustrating. Enjoying yourself while being in a smoke-free environment should be something that everyone experiences.
Smoke-free environments shouldn’t just be for patrons either. Individuals who work in bars, casinos and other establishments that allow smoking, are risking their health every time they go to work. No one should have to choose between their health and their job. That’s why Healthier Air for All works to create smoke-free environments and protect Louisiana communities from secondhand smoke. Through policy, cessation services and more, The Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco-Free Living (TFL) is working toward creating a healthier state by reducing cancer and other tobacco-related disparities. Through implementation and evaluation of tobacco control initiatives, TFL aims to not only prevent tobacco use but stamp out exposure to secondhand smoke.
Through education, TFL showcases the negative affects tobacco has on the lives of Louisianians. Ordinance work, advocacy, webinar series and more are all part of the effort to help create a smoke-free Louisiana.
