HEALTHY AND HAPPY

By Pastor James

We all want to be happy, but I believe lasting happiness is often the byproduct of something deeper: living a healthy life spiritually, emotionally, relationally, and personally.

If leaders are not healthy, it is difficult for the organization or family they lead to be healthy. The same is true in our walk with God. What is happening on the inside of us will eventually show up on the outside.

Happiness is not simply something we find; it is often the result of right habits repeated over a long period of time. When we consistently make healthy choices, those choices eventually shape who we become.

Jesus said in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.”

Healthy things grow.

So what does a healthy life look like? Here are seven areas I believe are worth examining:

1. You are generous.
Generosity is a reflection of a healthy heart. God has been generous toward us, and healthy people learn to live with open hands.  “God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”  (2 Corinthians 9:8)

2. You have a godly view of yourself.
Your worth is not determined by your accomplishments, failures, possessions, or what other people think about you. You were created by God and for a purpose. “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”  (Psalm 139:14)

3. You have good relationships.
Healthy people understand they were never meant to do life alone. We need people who encourage us, challenge us, pray for us, and tell us the truth. “Two are better than one… If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”  (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)

4. You are emotionally resilient.
A healthy person will still experience disappointment, difficulty, and pain. The difference is that those things don’t have to control them. God uses difficult seasons to develop perseverance, character, and hope. (Romans 5:3-4)

5. You are teachable.
Pride says, “I already know.” Humility says, “What can I learn?” Proverbs 9:9 says, “Instruct the wise and they will be even wiser.” A healthy person never gets to the place where they believe they have nothing left to learn.”  (Proverbs 9:9)

6. You are honest and trustworthy.
Character matters. Who you are when no one is watching is just as important as who you are when everyone is watching. “The integrity of the upright guides them.” (Proverbs 11:3)

7. You make wise decisions.
A healthy life requires healthy choices. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord rather than depending solely on our own understanding. Before making a decision, we should ask, “What does God’s Word say?”

The goal isn’t to become perfect. The goal is to become healthy.

And when we stay connected to Jesus, He produces fruit in our lives that we could never produce on our own.

So take an honest look at your life. Where are you healthy? Where do you need to grow?

Because healthy things grow, and when we grow spiritually, the people and places God has entrusted to us can grow with us.
