WAITING TO BLOOM …

by Jennifer DePriest

Out of the Archives for your reading pleasure … Thank you, Jennifer!

This afternoon I took a walk around my little corner of the world. It’s that time of year where plants are coming back to life. Though some plants have bloomed, there are still so many more that will bloom in the coming months.

My Sunday afternoon stroll reminded me of the seasons in our lives. Sometimes it can appear that nothing new is happening, when in fact, new opportunities and adventures are ready to bloom at any moment.

The key is allowing ourselves to slow down and observe what is taking place around us. It’s in the waiting that we grow in character and cultivate patience. We never know how long the process may take, after all, some plants take years before they produce their first bloom or fruit.

If the condition of the soil and climate determines if a plant can grow and thrive, think about the conditions you may find yourself in. Sometimes we need to be transplanted so that we can thrive.

Just like plants, we need to be watered with words of encouragement, love and wisdom, remembering to do the same for people that we encounter throughout our day.

Life has made us slow down, but it’s up to us to smell the roses as we wait for our lives to bloom. Years ago I wrote a piece about being a late bloomer, but if truth be told, none of us are late bloomers. If you take some time to really look at your journey through life, you can see how the twists and turns work together to mold you into who you have become today.

Not all of these experiences will be pleasant, just like the process that plants must endure before they bloom.

I thought the winter had destroyed some of my beautiful plants, but on careful examination, they are slowly coming back to life. We all experience storms in life, but it’s important to hold on to the hope that comes from knowing, even in the trial, we will one day bloom again.

Life has transplanted me, and I look so forward to seeing how this new opportunity will change my life. I’m excited about sharing the journey with you, so that you may find hope and inspiration in your own walk through life.

So until next month, go out and try to be the sunshine in someone else’s world today!

Hugs,
Jen
