HOW YOU’RE WIRED & HOW YOU LEAD

Brought To You By Journey Church; Pastor James Greer

God didn’t create you randomly, He designed you intentionally.
Your personality is not accidental.
Your leadership style is not accidental.
The way you think, respond, and influence others is part of how God chose to work through you.
But here’s the key:
Understanding how you’re wired helps you lead with clarity, humility, and purpose.

I. Personality Wiring (How You’re Wired)
Before you lead others, you need to understand yourself. You’ll likely lean toward one of these most of the time:
Choleric – The Achiever
You’re driven. You move fast. You get things done.

• You thrive on results.
• You’re decisive and action-oriented.
• You push through obstacles.
• You can feel frustrated when things slow down.

Spiritual insight:
God often uses you to advance the mission, but you must remember, people matter just as much as progress.

Sanguine – The Talker
You bring life to the room.

• You gain energy from people.
• You naturally encourage and motivate.
• You’re expressive and optimistic.
• You love being around others.

Spiritual insight:
God uses you to lift hearts, but you must stay grounded so your influence goes deeper than emotion.

Phlegmatic – The Facilitator
You are steady and safe.

• You value peace and stability.
• You stay calm under pressure.
• You prefer harmony over conflict.
• You’re dependable and consistent.

Spiritual insight:
God uses you to hold things together, but don’t avoid hard conversations that lead to growth.

Melancholy – The Thinker
You see what others miss.

• You think before acting.
• You value preparation and accuracy.
• You notice details others overlook.
• You want things done right.

Spiritual insight:
God uses you to strengthen what’s built, but don’t let perfection slow down obedience.

II. Leadership Influence (How You Lead)

Your wiring shapes how you influence people.
Most leaders naturally lead from one primary lane:
Relationship Leadership
You lead through connection.

• People feel seen, heard, and valued.
• You build trust easily.
• You prioritize unity.

You remind us: Ministry is about people.

Strategy Leadership
You bring clarity and direction.

• You create systems and structure.
• You think in steps and solutions.
• You help teams move forward.

You remind us: Vision needs a plan.

Passion Leadership
You bring energy and vision.

• Your faith inspires others.
• You communicate boldly.
• You create momentum.

You remind us: Faith should be alive and visible.

Competence Leadership
You lead through excellence.

• People respect your ability.
• You raise standards naturally.
• You lead by example.

You remind us: Excellence honors God.

Coaching Leadership
You develop people.

• You ask great questions.
• You invest in growth.
• You think long-term.

You remind us: Leadership is multiplication.

Talent-Based Leadership
Your gifting opens doors.

• God uses your visible gifts.
• People are drawn to what you carry.
• Your talent creates opportunity for ministry.

You remind us: Gifts are tools for God’s glory.

Servant/Support Leadership
You strengthen from behind the scenes.

• You make others better.
• You protect culture.
• You value stability over spotlight.

You remind us: The Kingdom is built on faithfulness, not fame.

III. Put It Together (Your Leadership Combo)
This is where it gets powerful.
Your personality + your leadership style = your unique Kingdom assignment.

• My Personality Type: __________
• My Leadership Style: __________

There is no “better” combination, only different assignments.
God didn’t call you to lead like someone else.
He called you to lead like you, surrendered to Him.

IV. Reflection (Where Growth Happens)
This is where maturity begins.
Ask yourself:

• What does this explain about how I lead?
(Why do I respond the way I do?)
• What is my biggest strength in this combo?
(What do I bring to the team naturally?)
• What is my biggest growth edge?
(Where do I need the Holy Spirit to shape me?)
• Which personality or leadership style do I need around me?
(What am I missing?)
• Who on our team complements me well?
(Who balances me?)

The goal isn’t just self-awareness, it’s Spirit-led leadership.
Your wiring is your starting point.
But your calling is to be shaped into the image of Christ.

Because at the end of the day: The best leaders aren’t just self-aware… they are Spirit-filled, people-focused, and purpose-driven.
