POP CULTURE HOT TAKES: SEPTEMBER 2025

By Jeanni Ritchie

It was the podcast heard ‘round the world. When Taylor Swift appeared on boyfriend Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast and announced a new album, Life of a Showgirl, with a markedly orange aesthetic, the entire world went ORANGE overnight.

All other pop cultures seems positively gray in comparison but let’s hit a few highlights anyway:

*Lindsay Lohan’s had a soft comeback with a series of Netflix Christmas specials but the Freakier Friday sequel hard launched her back into superstardom. Next up she costars with Shailene Woodley in Hulu’s adaptation of the Sophie Stava book “Count My Lies.”

*Speaking of book adaptations, the uberpopular Frieda McFadden book “The Housemaid” gets the big-screen treatment later this year with Sydney Sweeney in the titular role.

*Conjoined twins Abby and Brittany Hensel (now schoolteachers) have a newborn baby four years after Abby’s marriage to Josh Bowling.

*Royals on the move: Prince William and Catherine will move to the eight-bedroom Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park with their three children. They will privately fund this move and its expenses.

*Tim and Demi-Leigh Tebow are expecting their first child.

*Rachel Zoe is joining the cast for the upcoming season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

*Joely Richardson has given the thumbs-up to Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson’s budding relationship. Neeson was married to her late sister Natasha Richardson (The Parent Trap) before her death in a skiing accident in 2009.

*The Gosselin sextuplets continue to choose sides between Kate and Jon, with Collin conducting several interviews blasting Kate while Alexis made a rare cameo in one of her mom’s videos in a show of support.

*Lionel Richie’s long-anticipated memoir Truly comes out September 30, 2025.

*Toy Story turns 30! Watch for the re-release in theaters near you!

*Missed Hamilton on stage and want to know what all the hoopla is about? Check it out on Disney+ on September 5.

*New album releases from Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran, Cardi B, and Mariah Carey: which will reign supreme?

*October 3: Taylor Swift’s 12th album drop, Mean Girls Day, and Lindsay Lohan’s character Anna’s wedding day on Freakier Friday. All a coincidence?

*Rumor mill: Are Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet on the verge of a breakup? Will Hailey Bieber continue to stand by her man in the wake of his Ye-like tendencies?

*Eagle-eyed Easter egg decoded have deduced Taylor Swoft will be Super Bowl LX’s halftime entertainment. Could it be true? Despite the dads, Brads, and Chads complaining I predict it will break viewing records across the board.

*We were Team Aniston when our favorite Friend was publicly cheated on by then-husband Brad Pitt but it’s hard to get behind this new romance. Denise Richard’s also married a hypnotist/lifestyle guru/charlatan and look how that ended up. Jen, be careful!

*Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry called it quits after a year in which her reputation took a hit after her theatrical performance following a Blue Origin tour into space.

*Network premieres take place this month, with long-running series like NCIS (CBS) and Law and Order: SVU (NBC) coming back for Seasons 23 and 28, respectively. One to watch in its sophomore season is High Potential (ABC). The Kaitlyn Olson crime dramedy gives off Monk vibes with killer fashion. New series to watch for are Sheriff County and Boston Blue (CBS). Network sitcoms are in short supply this year.

*Miss America Abbie Stockard, of Alabama, has made a tremendous impact on the Cystic Fibrosis community in the first couple of months of her reign, dedicating her cause to her best friend Maddie.

Grab some popcorn and watch these stories and more play out over the next few months…
