by Peter John Ladetto
“Baby Doll” is a Dream Energy series painting by Peter John Ladetto.
This painting pays homage to the masked Mardi Gras krewe known as the New Orleans Baby Dolls. The Baby Dolls remain as lively a cultural tradition today as they were when they formed in 1912. The painting is based on a photograph taken by Romaine Beauxis, a long time New Orleans resident from Sceaux, France. Beauxis, an active musician and computer programmer (as well as photographer), also developed the Fluxonart app specifically for viewing the other dimension of the Dream Energy series.
This Baby Doll painting has been shown at the Mckenna Museum and ShiNola Gallery in New Orleans. The ShiNola showing was part of a book signing that co-owners, Daphne Britton and Ladetto, curated for Kim Vaz De-Ville, Dean at Xavier University and author of the book The ‘Baby Dolls’: Breaking the Race and Gender Barriers of the New Orleans Mardi Gras Tradition.
ShiNola Gallery now works out of Troy, New York.
Download the Fluxonart app, pull up the painting on a separate device and view the hidden dimension!!
