Have you purchased your local sweet potatoes to bake or make candied yams? Come to Avoyelles Parish and get some of the sweetest potatoes from one of the farmers! Here is a simple recipe for candied yams.

Candied Sweet Potatoes (Patates Douces en Candi)

6 or 8 fresh sweet potatoes
½ c. butter
1 ½ c. sugar
¼ c. water

Peel potatoes and divide into halves or fourths, if potatoes are large. Sprinkle sugar over potatoes and add butter and water. Bring to a boil. Potatoes will release juices also. Reduce heat, cover and cook until potatoes are soft, and liquid is thick. Turn each potato once during cooking process.
