RAPIDES PARISH SCHOOLS CONTINUE TO THRIVE

Brought To You By Rapides Parish School Board; Written by Mary Helen Downey

The Louisiana Department of Education, alongside Governor Jeff Landry, hosted a press conference to celebrate our state’s rise to 32nd in national rankings.

According to The Nation’s Report Card — widely recognized as the gold standard for measuring student achievement — Louisiana’s 4th and 8th graders earned the state’s highest national rankings in math and reading.

Rapides Parish has also seen steady progress, with rising district performance scores that reflect our commitment to student achievement through effective instruction and collaboration.

Recently, Rapides Parish was cited in The New York Times — alongside districts in Texas, New Jersey & California — for making strong progress post-Covid.

NYT’s David Leonhardt writes: “Some school districts, including in poorer areas, have largely recovered from the Covid learning loss… Among the standouts are Compton, Calif.; Ector County, Texas; Union City, N.J.; and Rapides Parish, La.”

This nod comes from the Education Recovery Scorecard from researchers Stanford & Harvard Universities. Louisiana is leading the way in student achievement following the COVID-19 pandemic.

These accomplishments are attributed to all of the dedicated people who serve our students from all of our departments, to the committed community members who champion our efforts, and to the families who support the hard work. It exemplifies the belief that here in Rapides Parish, we are “Better Together.”
