Your Rapides Parish Library constantly seeks new ways to serve its patrons and the community at large. From conversations, requests, and program interest, the Library staff gains awareness of the wants and needs of our parish. Whether those needs and wants are traditional resources such as books, magazines, and newspapers or more recent additions such as WiFi hotspots, museum passes, and e-book access, your Rapides Parish Library endeavors to provide the best, most current options.
For the last year, the Library has partnered with the Alexandria Zoological Park to provide passes to our local zoo and most recently, we have joined the Keep Louisiana Beautiful initiative to offer litter pick up kits for checkout at your local library branch.
Any adult patron with a Rapides Parish Library card in good standing is welcome to check out a zoo pass. These passes allow two adults and four children to visit our beautiful local zoo on any regular, non-special event, day. They have proven wildly popular and cannot be reserved, so visiting your local branch is the way to get your hands on a pass!
The Keep Louisiana Beautiful litter clean up kits are now available at each branch location. Each kit contains one litter grabber, one reflective safety vest and two garbage bags. A set of instructions and tips will also be emailed or printed for the patron checking out the kit. These kits check out for one week and can be used as part of individual, group, or community litter pick up projects. While they rolled out during April’s Love the Boot Week, it is the Library staff and administration’s hope that they will be used continuously all year long to help keep our community healthy and looking its best.
