MEET MELISSA

by Mitzi LaSalle, Evergreen Life Services

Melissa moved into the Prescott Road Community Home of Evergreen Life Services in November of 2014. Upon admission, Melissa had a difficult time adjusting to life in a community home. Melissa would get agitated and would display an extreme amount of self-injurious behaviors.

Evergreen staff met along with Melissa’s parents and worked together to implement the least restrictive plan possible to assist Melissa in being able to reduce her symptoms of agitation. The Home Manager, staff, and day program staff worked consistently on redirecting and assisting Melissa in reaching the goals stated in her treatment plan. Staff worked with Melissa to develop skills such as deep breathing and calm down techniques to keep her positively focused.

Melissa’s parents are constantly involved in her care at Evergreen and assist in her treatment as well. Melissa no longer displays self-injurious behaviors and that’s huge for her. Melissa can now communicate her feelings when she is upset or agitated. Melissa has made such an improvement since becoming a part of our Evergreen family.  The community’s support and generous gifts make success stories like “Melissa’s Story” possible.
