LSUA PHARMACY TECHNICIAN PROGRAM RECEIVES REACCREDITATION

The Louisiana State University of Alexandria Department of Allied Health is pleased to announce the reaccreditation of the Pharmacy Technician Program by ASHP/ACPE through 2023.

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) are the only nationally recognized collaborative and non-governmental agencies that accredit pharmacyeducation and training programs in the United States.

LSUA’s Pharmacy Technician Program boasts 100% graduation, PTCB licensure and employment rates for the past three years.

LSUA started the Certificate in Pharmacy Technology in 2001 and continues to prepare some of the best technicians in Central Louisiana under the instruction of the current program director, Debbie Gallagher, R.Ph. Dr. Gallagher has been with LSUA since the Fall of 2018 and brings 26 years of experience as a community pharmacist to LSUA students. In her years as a pharmacist, she has trained 100+ pharmacy technicians as well as several new pharmacists. Along with her duties as sole professor and coordinator at LSUA, Dr. Gallagher continues to practice as a relief pharmacist with CVS Pharmacy in order to keep up to date with current changes in the practice of pharmacy and increase networking abilities for placement of pharmacy technicians for their clinical rotations and employment after graduation.

In collaboration with an advisory committee devised of area pharmacists and technicians, LSUA’s yearlong program is developed to instruct and prepare the students to be ready for a rewarding career in the medical profession.

“Getting pharmacy technician candidates prepared to better serve the CENLA community as frontline workers is very important especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The rapidly growing and changing responsibilities of technicians to assist pharmacists with prescription filling, medical records, patient care, immunizations and COVID testing makes highly trained and knowledgeable pharmacy technicians a valuable asset,” said Gallagher. “And, LSUA’s Pharmacy Technicians continue to be highly sought after to fill positions in community and hospital pharmacies throughout Central Louisiana caring for your families one prescription at a time.”
