I stopped by McAlister’s after a movie matinee at the theater a few weeks ago. I hadn’t been in a while, so I had a hard time choosing between their loaded baked potato, one of their stacked sandwiches, or a half-and-half combo. In the end, nostalgia (and my cheesy carb cravings) won: I went for a 6-inch French Dip, complete with au jus sauce, and rounded it out with a creamy side of macaroni and cheese.
McAlister’s is one of those reliable spots where comfort food meets casual dining. The menu is broad enough to please everyone: hearty sandwiches, loaded spuds, fresh salads, giant sweet teas, and of course their famous half-and-half deal (pick two from soup, salad, spud, or sandwich). Portions are generous without being over the top, and the service is usually quick — perfect if you’re grabbing lunch between errands or, like me, rewarding yourself after a long movie.
The French Dip hit the spot, tender roast beef tucked in a soft baguette, dipped in savory au jus. And that mac & cheese? Velvety, cheesy, exactly what you want from a comfort-sidekick. It reminded me why McAlister’s stays such a steady favorite: you know what you’re going to get, and it’s going to be good.
McAlister’s also makes family dining easy. The kids’ menu includes smaller portions of sandwiches, spuds, mac & cheese, chicken nuggets, or pizza, each paired with a drink and a cookie.
Don’t forget about the cookies! Packaged desserts include cookies, brownies, and brookies (a delicious hybrid of the two!) that no one should leave without!
Nor should you skip the tea. My daughter Kelsey worked at a McAlister’s in Oklahoma after graduation. She, like many others, practically mainlined that sweet tea!
Hours are convenient for busy schedules and the after-church crowd: open Monday-Saturday from 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM; Sundays from 10:30 AM to 8 PM.
Dine-in, curbside, to-go, catering, and DoorDash delivery are all available, making McAlister’s just as easy for weeknight takeout as it is for feeding a large party.
