Conventional wisdom would tell you “if it ain’t broke, then, don’t fix it.” However, in these unconventional times, achieving your desired growth could require some breaking down and rebuilding. Back in May 2020, just a few months into the pandemic, Broken Wheel Brewery and Brown Bag Gourmet teamed up against the immense challenges facing the restaurant industry. Today, they have taken that adversity and turned it into a totally redesigned bar now able to seat 18 instead of 6, an upgraded interior, and bathroom ambiance worthy of a camera roll full of selfies.
Fresh off work on a Wednesday evening, I find myself feeling a little Friday-ish thanks to the intoxicating atmosphere inside Broken Wheel. Colorful plates and handcrafted cocktails are swarming around the dining area enroute to filled tabletops. It could be that just a week ago we were all suffering from cabin fever as the snow turned to ice and further restricted us to our homes, however, these are good vibrations typical of a Wednesday night at the Broken Wheel Brewery.
Speaking of typical, the shrimp & crab stuffed avocado salad is far from ordinary. It is an avocado stuffed with boiled shrimp, mounds of lump crab meat and tossed in the tastiest remoulade sauce you ever want to try. My second favorite Broken Wheel appetizer (behind the spinach & artichoke dip); the spicy tuna avocado stack with all its yellowfin tuna, avocado and sriracha aioli arrives at the table shortly after. Finally to even things out with all the Spring Bayou Blonde pints and tequila shots, a hefty French dip sandwich stacked with roast beef, swiss cheese, creole mustard and au jus for dipping.
“Team work makes the dream work,” sounds cliché but one visit to Broken Wheel on a busy Wednesday night or a hectic Friday night and you’ll see team work making the dream work in reality.
