Students from Alexandria Senior High’s Educators Rising Club hosted a Literacy Drive to collect books for Cherokee Elementary as part of the district’s Together Tuesday initiative.
The class collecting the most books received a Crumbl cookie party, boxes of minis donated by owner Jeff Vaccaro and GM Jesse James. The “new kids on the cookie block” have shown great interest in investing in the Central Louisiana community and elevating the district’s Better Together campaign to a new delicious level.
Together Tuesday shows community organizations, churches, and businesses teaming up with Rapides Parish Schools to enhance the learning experience each Tuesday morning.
“Educators Rising helps high school students prepare for a career in education and recognize the work of current teachers while providing support for them,” Club President Camryn Zimmerman shares. They also welcome Cherokee Students as they arrive each Tuesday morning, observe teachers in different schools each Thursday, and participate in Regional and State Educators Rising Conference competitions.
Aaidyann Walker, Club Vice-President, says the literacy drive was a resounding success. “I loved seeing the books our students donated. They took favorite books they had as a child to pass on to new children so they could love them as well.”
It is a true picture of how in the district, as well as in life in general, that we are all better together.
