When I stopped by Sugar Mamas with my grandsons shortly after they relocated, I did what any clever grandma would do: I bought them ice cream to buy myself five minutes of quiet to chat with the owners.
The actual Sugar Mamas — Haley Greene and her mom, Rene Free — rebranded and relocated from their previous restaurant, Freedom Baking Company, just across the Monroe Highway. They now solely focus on the bakery, including custom-made cakes. I loved Freedom Baking Company and appreciate that Sugar Mamas retained the excellent customer service and superb food quality — but adore how they kicked up their new space a notch. The walls scream HAPPY when you walk in.
And the smell? Well, who wouldn’t do a happy dance with the smell of sugar and buttercream wafting through the air as soon as you open the door?!
And let’s pause for a sec to appreciate the peaceful harmony of this mother-daughter duo. I love my daughters dearly, but if we ran a bakery together, one of us would end up buried beneath the fondant by Week Two.
Sugar Mamas specializes in custom cakes, cookies, cupcakes, brownies, ice cream, and coffee, along with dessert catering for every occasion. They even make their own chocolate — their Dubai bars have been flying off the shelf. Whether you’re dining in, picking up, ordering catering, or soon cruising through their new drive-through window, every detail feels personal.
A chocoholic through and through, I didn’t expect to fall head over heels for a non-chocolate dessert — but their Maple Pecan Cookie won me over completely. I brought it home alongside a Cookie Butter Brownie, a Brookie, and a Pecan Pie Cupcake, and let’s just say that cookie deserves its own fan club.
Whether you’re celebrating a milestone, ordering a custom cake, or just need a pick-me-up, Sugar Mamas proves that life really is sweeter in Cenla!
