HENRY’S COFFEE STATION OPENS IN ALEXANDRIA

By Jeanni Ritchie

I walked into my daughter’s workplace just as she appeared to be in the middle of a disagreement with her coffee maker.

Impeccable mom timing.

I handed her a hot specialty coffee from Henry’s Coffee Station, flavored with caramel and cookie butter, and watched as her office suddenly became a doorstep. I was Ed McMahon and she was Publishers Clearing House’s latest million-dollar winner.

It’s amazing what a good cup of coffee can do!

Earlier that morning, I’d stopped at Henry’s for the first time since their official opening. I’d already stopped by many times to visit with owner John King as he put the finishing touches on Cenla’s newest coffeehouse. I knew Henry’s was named for his son, and his daughter Amelia will be the namesake of the upcoming one-of-a-kind pastries sold in-house.

I met my friend Sarah for a morning visit, grabbing a hot chocolate with extra dark chocolate while Sarah got an iced coffee with toasted marshmallow and hazelnut.

We loved the DIY feel of the coffee bar, where customers can customize any of the drinks to their own tastes. Other flavors include vanilla, white chocolate, bourbon maple, toffee nut, rose, lavender, cinnamon, coconut, banana, cane sugar, salted caramel, Irish cream, peppermint, and pumpkin spice. Sugar-free vanilla and caramel are also available.

I will try salted caramel in my next hot chocolate.

Coffee drinkers can choose from Americanos, cortados, Cubanos, cappuccinos, lattes and other espresso drinks, along with pour-over and drip coffee.

(Thanks to Google, I now know that a cortado is a small espresso drink made with a balanced 1:1 ratio of espresso to warm, lightly steamed milk. Thanks to Henry’s, I’m learning to speak fluent java.)

Henry’s also serves tea. Loose-leaf tea choices include Irish Breakfast, Masala Chai, Earl Grey Lavender and Pomegranate Green, along with non-caffeinated Peppermint, Cha Cha and Honey Bush Vanilla.

Located next to the Main Dish off Versailles, Henry’s is the midway point between two of my most frequent stops: Walmart Coliseum grocery pickup and Westside Regional Library. It is the perfect morning stop between errands!

Grab yourself a coffee, tea, or cocoa—or score pastry points with a loved one by bringing them a cup of this flavorful coffee.

Henry’s Coffee Station is located at 5821 Provine Place, Suite A, Alexandria.
