by Dave Duplissey
Dave Duplissey and John LeBoeuf came to know one another in the year 2000 while playing with the Harmon Drew Super Group horn section, of which they are still members of. It did not take long for the two to realize how well they played and blended together. Both were playing top of the line King silver sonic horns, Dave’s King Super 20 Tenor sax and John’s King 3B trombone, Dave’s lead tenor sax tied the knot in the horn section and John’s smooth trombone made the section shine.
Dave was already doing a single act as “Dave Duplissey’s Sax in the Corner” and asked John to join in, when not playing for Harmon. While playing Copeland’s of New Orleans Sunday Jazz brunch in Alexandria, La they decided to ask Alan Roberts, the trumpet player from the Harmon Drew horn section, to join in, that’s when the name changed to “Uptown Jazz and Variety”
Eighteen years later, many, many road miles and sky miles, tons of stage hours, live television performances, radio interviews, CD releases, Dave Duplissey, John LeBoeuf and Alan Roberts have made their mark in the music scene. All three are inducted in to the Louisiana Hall of Fame and made honorary citizens of New Orleans by Mayor Marc H. Morial.
