Evergreen Life Services (ELS) is a charitable, non-profit organization with a range of professional services offered to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
ELS was started in 1959. Prior to that time, people with severe IDD were usually sent to state institutions. Since its beginning, ELS has expanded into seven states and now serves nearly 1,000 people with disabilities.
Evergreen operates a wide variety of programs and services, including community homes, day work centers, supportive living and employment services, art centers, and social enterprise projects.
Evergreen’s Day Programs are designed to meet the unique social, emotional, and educational needs of individuals with a wide range of disabilities. At the same time, each of our Day Programs provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment where adults with disabilities can learn, grow, nurture relationships with their peers and actively participate in the community around them.
Our day programs empower people with disabilities to express their creativity and desire to work, helping them engage productively in a variety of work options with the opportunity to earn a paycheck. Even a small paycheck provides a huge boost to their self-esteem and a sense of dignity.
One such example is the creation of Pearl Soup Necklaces at our Pineville, LA location. Pearl Soup Necklaces are made of random freshwater pearls and may or may not be in a particular pattern. This classic will never go out of style. Among the various styles and designs, the Pearl Soup Necklace stands out as a unique and captivating choice, combining the luster of pearls with a modern and versatile twist. Our artists are encouraged to use their creativity, giving each necklace its own unique style.
The consumer gets to choose the colors wanted for each necklace, before the artist strings the pearls in a random order. Each necklace is about 18″ in length and finished with a 3″ extension chain. All necklaces include a signature Emerald & “Evergreen” crystal. The necklaces are one-of-a-kind originals and unique! There will be no other just like it.
Each necklace is tagged with the first name of the artist who made it and a brief bio of that person. The cost of each Pearl Soup Necklace is $35. The maker will receive a portion of each necklace that he/she makes and sells. A portion of the price will pay for materials/staff and a portion will go to support Evergreen Life Services, Central LA.
