My mother has loved Dairy Queen her entire life. I liked the dipped cones, but I didn’t really get on the DQ train until 1985.
The year they gave us the Blizzard.
I love a Blizzard—the more “stuff,” the better. This only posed a problem once when I had a medium Choco Brownie Extreme with extra brownies and added cookie dough on my way to have labwork drawn.
Note to fellow chocoholics: Save this particular Blizzard order for after they check your blood sugar!
My mom’s favorite is the Turtle Pecan Cluster. Once, while home recovering from pneumonia, no fewer than five family members showed up throughout the day carrying Blizzards for her. They know their Nana!
While Dairy Queen has food—think hamburgers and chicken baskets—I’m focusing solely on the Blizzard today. It is the only reason I go to DQ, and I won’t pretend otherwise.
Some longtime favorites include the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Mint OREO, Turtle Pecan Cluster, and the Choco Brownie Extreme, which is still my personal favorite. Dairy Queen also offers candy classics like OREO, REESE’S, Butterfinger, M&M’S, HEATH, and SNICKERS Blizzards, all of which can be customized with extra toppings for an additional charge.
For those wanting an even more over-the-top dessert experience, the Royal Blizzard line adds rich centers filled with fudge, caramel, or marshmallow. Favorites include the Royal Ultimate Choco Brownie, Royal New York Cheesecake, and Royal REESE’S Brownie.
Now what kind of daughter would I be if I didn’t often take my mom for her favorite treat?!
