Brought To You By The Hackers Golf Tournament & Dustin and Kelly Matthews
The Hacker’s Cup Golf Tournament was started 17 years ago as a way for some of my college buddies and me to reunite after we had all graduated and moved on. The event was so much fun the first year we decided it would become an annual event. By year two, it was determined that if we all pitched in, we could raise some money for a good cause while having fun on the golf course.
My grandmother was experiencing some of the latter stages of Parkinson’s disease at the time, so we decided the money raised would benefit the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Over the years, the tournament has changed and grown tremendously. It’s now one of the largest fundraising golf tournaments in Central Louisiana.
About 5 years ago, we partnered with a local group of volunteers who raise money all year long for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Now, all of the monies raised at the Hacker’s Cup each year go to St. Jude. Because of the support of so many local businesses and individuals, we were able to raise $20,000 this year!
After 17 years, I still enjoy hosting this event and watching it grow each year. My wife Kelly, along with our family and friends participate, making it a true family and community affair.
