STAR STYLIST SPOTLIGHT: ANGIE BROWN

Brought To You By The Salon Pineville ... thesalonpineville.com

I look forward each month when I get to make new friendships or keep up with old ones as I bring you interviews from my longtime friends at The Salon Pineville. This month’s spotlight will focus on another Star Stylist, Angie Brown. So let’s meet Angie …

318Central.com: Good morning, Angie, could we please start by getting to know you?

Angie: Sure, I’m locally born and homegrown raised. My family, from beautiful downtown Pineville, has been in this area for four generations. I’m single with a daughter who recently celebrated her 22nd birthday.

318Central.com: So how did you know you wanted to be a hairdresser?

Angie: Frankly, I didn’t. When I graduated from high school, I went to work for an architectural/engineering firm but found out quickly that it wasn’t for me. My family had been close friends with Cheryl Barlow and Lynn Glaze at The Salon Pineville for many years and, as I was looking for my next stop on my “employment journey,” Cheryl just happened to call and ask me if I wanted a job.

I just seemed to be in the right place at the right time. I was hired as a tech, which involved sweeping, laundry, general upkeep and cleaning. Then, one day, during a particularly business season, things got hectic for Lynn, Cheryl and staff, and I jumped in to help. They recognized that I had a natural aptitude for the industry, and immediately asked me to do the Barber Apprentice Program. This was in ’99, and 24 years later, here I am!

Maybe I should have known something since my aunt and uncle owned Pineville Beauty College, but I must admit, it was the best decision I ever made and I thank Lynn and Cheryl for their support all these years.

318Central.com: We know Lynn stresses the importance of continuing education in the industry. Would you please share some of your experiences with that?

Angie: A most memorable one was not long after I first came to work here. I attended a Paul Mitchell Show in LAS VEGAS! It was so exciting and my first time in Las Vegas was only heightened by being able to share it with 1000’s of other stylists from everywhere! That’s a memory I’ll hold onto forever.

I have attended many continuing education classes over the years, most were local, some statewide, but I can assure you the depth and dimension they have added to my skill level can’t be beat. So many unique, new techniques and procedures are always coming around, and they are so important to know. For example: men’s grooming, tape-in extensions, color, styling classes, just too much to mention.

318Central.com: Would you please share something about The Salon Pineville after 24 years with them?

Angie: I tell my clients I love them, I love my job, I love where I work, and I love the team I work with. We always have each other’s backs. I work with an amazing group of women at a fantastic place, it doesn’t get any better!

318Central.com: Any favorite clients?

Angie: I have many clients who have been with me since the beginning. They are the catalysts that have built my success. I love and adore them all, but I must admit … My 86-year-old firecracker Grandmother, is my favorite! Thank you, Honey, for your love and support always.

318Central.com: And, finally, any advice for someone thinking about entering the industry?

Angie: And this is from the bottom of my heart: it’s one of the hardest jobs I’ve ever done, but one of the most rewarding and fulfilling ever!!! So, if you’re thinking about … JUST DO IT!!!

Thank you, Angie, I loved your final comment, “when I see the clients joyful, feeling fantastic about themselves, it’s all worth it!”
