RESTAURANT REVIEW: THE LITTLE BIG CUP (Arnaudville)

By Jeanni Ritchie

This month we travel south to a popular restaurant, The Little Big Cup, whose word of mouth put it in my ears no less than seven times when I told people I was spending the weekend at the Trainwreck Inn in Grand Coteau a few months ago.

Sadly, I had decided it would be the perfect weekend for a fast and didn’t want to back out of my commitment, even if it was just to myself.

I did sneak a peek at the online menu that weekend though and I knew I’d dine there sooner or later.

Finally the day had come…

I should’ve looked at the menu again before going, the choices leaving me playing a game of eenie, meenie, miney, mo! It all looked so good. Crawfish boulettes, praline chicken, fried crawfish cornbread, cracklin dusted Mac n cheese balls, crab cakes…I almost ordered only appetizers.

Entree choices weren’t any easier to choose from. Louisiana seafood fettuccine, praline chicken and waffles, seafood loaded baked potatoes, crab stack, parmesan crusted red snapper, cochon de lait sandwich…I couldn’t decide! Then my server recommended something not even on my radar: the Cajun Kevin Po Boy: hollowed out French bread, stuffed with sautéed Gulf Shrimp, lump Blue Point crab meat, Louisiana crawfish tails, and andouille sausage in a mixed pepper, Parmesan, butter, and cream reduction.

Oh my! I now know why it is the most popular item on the menu. It was delicious.

Actually, everything was.

Someone else at the table had ordered the fried crawfish cornbread and the praline chicken appetizer, and I tasted both. They were both so good but I’d drive an hour and half every day just for that praline chicken!

My eyes skimmed over the soups and salads, though the Shrimp, Corn & Crab Bisque looked divine. Salads, for those who eat healthier than me, include a Seafood Bourbon Salad, and Louisiana Strawberry Salad.

I, however, did not skim over the dessert menu. Brown butter cookie dough cheesecake, chocolate brownie cookie dough cheesecake, white chocolate bread pudding, and blueberry muffin bread pudding. I’d gotten so full between the appetizers and the po-boy that I didn’t order dessert but that didn’t stop me from tasting the bread pudding and cheesecakes delivered to the table.

Can’t decide? There is a brunch buffet on Saturdays and Sundays from 9-2. Get a little taste of everything. On Friday nights from 5-close, they put out a Surf and Turf Buffet. Reservations are highly recommended.

I see now why people so highly recommend it, why Cenla residents travel just for dinner. It is a true Louisiana treasure.

The Little Big Cup is located on Bayou Fuselier, at 149 Fuselier Road, Arnaudville. They are open Tuesday from 11 AM-2 PM, Wednesday and Thursday 11 AM-8:30 PM, Friday 11 AM- 9 PM, Saturday 9 AM-9 PM, and Sunday 9 AM- 2 PM.
