Pineville is firing up the grills once again for the city’s 3rd annual Smoking on the River Barbecue Cook-Off, set for Saturday, October 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Pineville Riverfront.
This lively community event brings together top chefs competing for the title of barbecue champion in the brisket, ribs, and chicken categories. Beyond the smoky flavors, visitors can enjoy live music, family-friendly activities, and a variety of local vendors offering handcrafted jewelry, artisanal goods, and unique creations.
Last year’s event left a lasting impression—not just for the food, but for the people. It was here I had the privilege of meeting the late Steve McCloud, affectionately known as the “Flip-Flop Man.” I was headed to my car when his music drifted across the riverfront and stopped me in my tracks, pulling me back to sit and listen a little longer. That memory is part of what makes this event so special—it’s about connection and community as much as barbecue.
So bring your family and friends, pull up a chair by the riverfront, and make a day of it. Smoking on the River BBQ Cookoff is one more reason to be #PinevilleProud.
