Leggo my Eggo!
In 1953, frozen Eggo waffles hit supermarket freezers. Waffles had actually arrived in the U.S. back in 1869, when Cornelius Swarthout received the first waffle iron patent in Troy, New York. Belgian waffles became popular with the 1964 World’s Fair in Queens.
Last month we celebrated National Waffle Day, and I could think of no better way to mark the occasion than with a couple of specialty Belgian waffles at Peach Cobbler Factory in Alexandria.
Usually skipping the waffles in favor of their delicious peanut butter cookie, this time I ordered two waffles- Pecan Praline and Chocolate Chocolate Chip- for me and two of my grandsons after a morning spent jumping at the Adventure Cenla trampoline park in Pineville. I was quickly told the chocolate chip and whipped cream one was theirs and I needed to keep my fork in my own- the pecan praline waffle with a creamy peanut butter drizzle.
I didn’t mind! I love that pecan praline topping and the peanut butter elevated it from snack to meal! Who needs syrup with that much goodness loaded on top?!
Other waffle flavors include Strawberry, Cherry, and Peanut Butter and Jelly.
It was indeed a great way to celebrate #NationalWaffleDay!
