Get ready to celebrate! September is Library Card Sign-up Month, and we’re bursting with excitement to share the amazing value of a library card! Since 1987, this annual observance has ignited a love for reading and promoted the vast, amazing resources our libraries offer.
This year, the Rapides Parish Library is celebrating with the opportunity for all adult patrons to receive a collectible card as well as learn about all that their Library offers. From local and statewide attraction passes to at-home educational opportunities, your
local branch of the Rapides Parish Library provides endless possibilities for enriching your family’s lives. Tutoring, e-books, research databases, and more are all at the tips of your fingers when you have an RPL card and any mobile device! Connection, art appreciation, and STEM education are all readily available at your conveniently located local branch. Your Library is responsive to all of your family’s educational and entertainment needs, growing to provide new, enriching opportunities.
Beginning on September 1, 2025, adult patrons will have the option to trade their regular library card to a new, vibrantly colored card that features an image of the Red River at dusk, cast with shades of RPL blue. For those who choose the new card, your card number will change and need updating in all applications, including the new RPL app and the Check Out Louisiana Museums program. All original cards will function as before, so if you love your current card, you can keep it! This is also a prime chance for those without a library card to get one and receive a little lagniappe – a FREE canvas tote in addition to all the access your card provides.
As an added bonus in this month of celebration, all rural library branches will now be open on Mondays. Due to increased demand from our communities, we will be opening our Hineston, McDonald, Johnson and Boyce locations on Mondays beginning on September 8, 2025!
