It was the perfect way to spend a chilly Thursday evening. A friend and I were cozied up to the hibachi grill, the warmth from its fire bringing heat and the aroma of spices.
I’d ordered the Steak and Shrimp Hibachi, trying unsuccessfully to catch a shrimp in my mouth as it flew through the air. A nearby diner was more successful.
A Japanese steakhouse is more than just dining experience — it’s dinner and a show. From the time your chef arrives, it’s skilled entertainment with a little comedy and a lot of fire.
For those who like sushi, Hana has no shortage of options. My sister and her family love the LSU Roll and often order Hana takeout just for the popular treat. An LSU Roll is a deep-fried sushi creation featuring crawfish, snow crab, cream cheese, wrapped in soy paper and topped with spicy mayo and eel sauce. This kind of Cajun-Japanese fusion is what makes Hana one of Alexandria’s premier dining destinations.
While I always order hibachi at a Japanese steakhouse — I like a little fanfare with my food and love communal dining — there are other menu items that can be enjoyed privately at your own table: teriyaki, udon, tempura, sashimi. You can order eel, squid, octopus, and flying fish roe.
Or you can be a little less adventurous, like me, and order chicken, steak, or salmon.
Kids’ meals include fried shrimp, chicken or beef teriyaki, chicken cutlets or beef katsu, and French fries. Katsu is a deep-fried, panko-breaded cutlet, in case you were wondering. (I certainly was!)
With a diverse menu to satisfy both the Foodie and the Picky Pete in your life, Hana is the perfect place for a date night, family gathering, or evening out with friends.
