Chrissy’s Cajun Kitchen started popping up in my FB feed with such regularity that I took it as a sign to stop in. March 15 made their one-year anniversary in Alexandria and from the looks (and tastes!) of things, they are here to stay.
With a revolving menu, the American and international options are endless. But they have one common theme: each dish has a unique Cajun flair.
I had to choose between Cajun quesadillas, Cajun pasta, loaded potatoes, gumbo, and fried rice.
Since I’d come on hibachi Friday I decided to order steak and shrimp hibachi. It came over fried rice with a side of broccoli and corn. While it had sides of the traditional yum yum, teriyaki, and soy sauces, the dish itself needed no seasoning. I didn’t even have to add salt and if you know me, I add salt to everything!
This was a deep South dish, perfectly seasoned and in absolutely no need of distracting sauces.
Owners Antonio and Christine Kimble operated Chrissy’s Cajun Kitchen as a food truck for three years before opening their brick and mortar restaurant in Emerald Square in 2024. Their success lies in their food.
But that restaurant interior is fire too! The decor is red and black, with pops of greenery around the photo wall and the illuminated sign. The store screams “Welcome!” to guests of all ages.
Other items on the menu but not being served today include Shrimp and Grits, Stuffed Turkey Legs, Lasagna, and Meatloaf.
Got a party or reception coming up and need catering? Your guests will be talking about the food long after the last song plays if you cater from Chrissy’s Cajun Kitchen.
Even if you only have a dessert bar! The dessert menu had so many mouthwatering options, it was hard to choose a favorite. Strawberry shortcake, banana pudding, lemon cake, pecan praline cake, peach cobbler, pecan brownies, German chocolate cake, chocolate cake, and chocolate pecan cake.
I opted for the latter. After all, a big sign read “Leave a review on Google for a free dessert.” I’m all about both- leaving Google reviews and free dessert! I was in!
Oh yum. That chocolate was heavenly. I’ll have to start checking their FB page daily to see when they are serving the German Chocolate Cake (for Dad) and the Pecan Praline Cake (for Mom). Those are their favorites! A daily menu is posted online each day.
In addition to catering and dine-in, Chrissy’s Cajun Kitchen has a huge pick-up customer base. Pick-up orders went out at a rate of 5:1 while I was dining in. This is no well-kept secret. People know about them. I was just late to the party!
Chrissy’s Cajun Kitchen is located at 3423 Jackson Street, Alexandria. They are open Tuesday-Friday from 11 AM-3 PM. They are currently experimenting with Saturdays as well. Check online for the latest hours. Orders can be placed at 318-224-8223.
