Alexandria Middle Magnet School celebrated the start of its major renovation and construction project with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by community members, school board officials, and district administrators earlier in June.
The renovation represents the final large-scale project funded by District 62’s $100 million bond, which Alexandria voters approved in April 2022. The comprehensive upgrades will include significant structural improvements and new additions aimed at creating safer, more modern learning environments.
“We’re proud to see the vision our community voted for becoming a reality,” said Superintendent Jeff Powell during the ceremony. “This project is about investing in our students and their future.”
The planned improvements will provide enhanced spaces for classrooms, student collaboration, and school activities. Principal Dennis Stewart expressed enthusiasm about the project’s potential impact on the school community.
“We are going to make the impossible possible, here at AMMS,” Stewart said, noting his excitement about how the new facilities will affect student morale and academic performance.
The renovation continues the district’s commitment to upgrading facilities throughout Alexandria’s school system to better serve Rapides Parish students. Since its approval three years ago, the District 62 Bond has funded important improvements across multiple schools in the city.
Community members can track the project’s progress through updates posted on the district’s website at www.rpsb.us..
The groundbreaking marks a significant milestone for Alexandria Middle Magnet School and represents the culmination of the voter-approved bond initiative that has transformed educational facilities throughout the district.
