LANGSTON, OKLAHOMA – Louisiana Christian University Wildcats traveled to Langston University (Langston, Oklahoma) for their first Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) game of the season. The game provided lots of exciting action!
The Wildcats came home with the win, 31-24.
The Wildcats got on the scoreboard first with a 35 yard field goal by Levi Hilborn to lead 3-0. The Langston Lions took the lead with a one yard pass from Aden Hooper to Landon Green, 3-7.
LCU closed out the first half with a 25 yard field goal by Hilborn with 20 seconds left in the second quarter, halftime, 6-7.
Early in the second half, LCU took the lead when Xavion Butler scored on a 81 yard pass from Bryce Perkins, 13-7. The Wildcats expanded their lead when Defensive Linebacker Lyric Hawkins scored on a 30 yard fumble recovery, 20-7
With 4:30 left in the third quarter Langston scored with a one yard run by Hooper, 20-14. The Lions retook the lead with 1:30 left in the third quarter on a 19 yard pass from Hooper to Gerald Martin, 20-21.
In the fourth quarter the Wildcats scored on a 36 yard field goal by Hilborn to take the lead, 23-21. The Lions answered with a 18 yard field goal by Octavio Resendi to flip the lead back to the Lions with 5:50 left in the game, 23-24.
LCU’s Datlan Cunningham scored on a two yard run to give the Wildcats the lead, 29-24, and Perkins found David Voorhies III in the end zone on the 2 point conversion with 1:38 left in the game to give the Wildcats the win, 31-24
The Wildcat defense secured the victory with an interception late in the fourth quarter.
The LCU Wildcats host SAC opponent Wayland Baptist next Saturday, 6:00pm, at Wildcat Field.
