COME ON Y’ALL … WALK-ON’S IS SERVING UP A SUPER BOWL! A FOOD REVIEW

Hello, again, I hope everyone is doing well and maintaining good mental and physical health as we continue to maneuver through this new norm. Although I have enjoyed the nostalgia of classic games and history making matchups, the return of live sports has brought back a familiar excitement. Luckily, for you and me,

Walk-On’s is open with social distancing guidelines and their game day grocery line up is more than capable of slam dunking the hungriest of the hungry.

Not long after I take my seat on a sunny Tuesday afternoon, the appetizers start barreling out of the kitchen like the LSU Tigers running out of the tunnel on a Saturday night in Death Valley. Boneless wings, loaded waffle cheese fries with the chipotle ranch for dipping, and “boom boom” shrimp invade the table like an all-out blitz pummeling an opposing quarterback. This collection of flavors is especially well suited for sharing with the table. After a couple swigs from my
icy cold pint (because you’ve got to stay hydrated), I looked up to see two more heavy hitters headed my way. This is where Walk-On’s runs circles around the game day sports bar competition. First, the Mardi Gras Mahi Mahi, blackened and resting on top of sweet corn grits while simultaneously swimming in a crawfish cream sauce. Next, the Voodoo Shrimp, four large Louisiana brown Gulf shrimp chargrilled with jalapeños, cream cheese, wrapped in bacon and drizzled with a sweet chili glaze, also served with sweet corn grits which are made fresh daily. Much like Deion Sanders and Charles Woodson in the secondary, this tandem of entrees has your hunger covered.

As if that wasn’t enough, the kitchen continues to run up the score by sending out their hickory burger. This two hands required, Shaq-sized burger topped with bbq sauce, cheddar cheese, bacon and onion strings towers over the remaining food on the table much like the former LSU star dominating the paint during his playing days. When you score this big, a sweet end zone celebration is mandatory. After indulging in some Krispy Kreme bread pudding made with Krispy Kreme donuts and vanilla ice cream and a salted caramel milkshake, I received a flag on the play for excessive snacking!

Chris and the staff at Walk-Ons take pride in their community involvement along with their daily over the top enthusiasm. Walk-On’s operates with a mission of delivering a memorable game day experience with a taste of Louisiana created by an All-American team.
