“…a [person] reaps what he sows.” // Galatians 6:7
The concept is pretty simple: what we get is based off what we put in.
Carrot cake batter always makes carrot cake, and chocolate chip cookie dough always make chocolate chip cookies.
In life, the same is true: everything that we do is a result of what we put in our minds. Positivity breeds positivity- negativity can breed negativity, too.
While we can’t become perfect, there is something we can do help us have better reactions, better thoughts, and better habits:
Watch what we put into our minds.
If you’ve felt angry, lonely, depressed, or any other negative feeling, one thing that’s helped me (outside of praying) has been to go through what I’ve been looking at- what types of videos have I been watching? Have I been on social media too much?
Sometimes, we need to unplug from certain things- for a while or for good. I’ll be honest: I don’t watch the news sometimes because even though it’s good to keep up with things, it can easily start to negatively influence my day.
Unplugging from things can allow us to get a fresh start and a new perspective on life.
This same concept can go for people, too.
Proverbs 13:20 says, “Walk with the wise and become wise…”
Who we’re around also influences us. With that in mind, get and stay connected with people who challenge you to be better, encourage you to do the right thing, and help you grow. It’s very important to be around people who are mostly positive (none of us are all the time!).
Whatever it may look like for you, I encourage you to find anything that might be causing you to have negative thoughts, and take a break from it or remove it.
tl;dr- The environments we’re in do influence us, and our minds are one of the most important things we have. Let’s guard it and take care of it.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” – Proverbs 4:23
