It’s 2:30 in the afternoon and you’ve conquered you’re early morning to do list like a boss. Dashing through aisles, hurdling displays, weaving through checkout lines like Alvin Kamara through opposing defenses, maneuvering in and out of traffic on your way to the next store and the next crowd only to do it all over again. Holiday shopping can be draining. And you still haven’t eaten yet! Luckily for you and many others left feeling defeated and famished from the holiday hustle and bustle, the kitchen at Pamela’s Bayou in a Bowl is open and they serving #demgroceries y’all.
This may not be old news, as many are familiar with the flavors of Pamela’s original location. However, what may be news you can use is there is now a second location conveniently situated along the busy shopping trail between Wal-Mart and the Mall, this is where I sat down for a plate of smothered chicken, rice and gravy, mac and cheese and mustard greens. As I was eating, Mr. Bobby Johnson made his way out of the kitchen and spoke with me about what Pamela’s simple approach to feeding the soul. “Everything is made from scratch, the mustard greens, cabbage greens, candied yams, mashed potatoes and gravy, macaroni and cheese, cornbread, and desserts. Everything is homemade and made fresh every day.”
Pamela’s offers a different lunch special each day ranging from red beans and rice, baked chicken, smothered pork chops, and your choice of two or three sides. There is also gumbo available to go. No skimpy portions here. Take a to go box or find yourself fighting to stay awake at your desk after lunch.
