What’s better than a library card? A library card with a fun new design just in time for National Library Week at your Rapides Parish Library! The Rapides Parish Library announces a new juvenile library card with a vibrant design and different access level options from which parents and guardians may choose. The new RPL Juvenile Library card replaces all current juvenile cards for patrons from ages zero to seventeen, and the Library is asking for your help in transitioning all juvenile cards to the new card by June 1, 2024 in compliance with Louisiana State law La RS 25:225.
With a newly completed and signed application, all juveniles will get this specially designed eye-catching library card. The colorful card comes with a choice of three different options of access to Library materials. The three card levels parents/guardians choose from are full checkout access to all items, print and digital; checkout of all print materials but no digital access; checkout of only print items that are not labelled "sexually explicit" with no digital access.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to exercise their rights and responsibilities to decide upon the level of access and materials their children will have. To receive the new juvenile card, new and current patrons between the ages of zero and seventeen must have a parent or guardian complete and sign an application for the new card at their local branch. After June 1, 2024, current RPL juvenile library card holders must have a new card application on file at their local branch to maintain access to RPL services. All non-updated juvenile cards will expire on June 1, 2024.
The Rapides Parish Library urges all kids who don’t have library cards yet, as well as all current juvenile library card holders, to visit their local branches with their adult caregivers during National Library Week, April 7-13, 2024.
