New Year’s Resolutions have been a part of human practices since the rise of the Babylonian empire; that’s roughly 4,000 years. While the tradition’s roots lie in religious practices, over time the practice has transitioned to a more secular promise to one’s self: a promise to become a better person in one aspect or another. Sadly, it’s a promise that is usually broken. Currently, only about 8% of the resolutions made each year are achieved.

Some of the most popular resolutions that we make include exercising more, getting organized, spending less money, smoking cessation, spending more time with loved ones, and reading more. Let’s face it, some of these resolutions are actually quite difficult to accomplish. No wonder 90% of them are broken! However, if you’re serious about being successful this year, your Rapides Parish Library is here to help with library resources that support your goals!
