Color Run on March 23 to raise money for locals in need
Louisiana Christian University Psi Chi chapter is celebrating its 75 th anniversary on campus. Psi Chi is an international honor society for psychology students, and since its inception, the LCU chapter has inducted more than 200 members.
The oldest inductee on record is Dorothy Atkinson on May 6, 1956, according to Mollie Wise, coordinator of the psychology department and Psi Chi adviser.
According to its website, Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, was founded in 1929 with a mission to encourage excellence in scholarship and advance the science of psychology.
LCU Psi Chi hosts event to bring awareness and empathy to today’s social issues. A community awareness fair was held to let the area residents learn about the services available to them, including mental health and other health services and food pantries.
“Many individuals don’t seek help because they don’t know what services there are or who to contact,” Wise said. “This year we are hosting the Color Run in which half the proceeds will go to help Neighborhood Baptist Church’s outreach to individuals around the Jackson Street area in Alexandria.
The Color Run will be held March 23 at 9:10 a.m. Registration will be held at 8:30 a.m. for those who have not pre-registered. The cost is $10 for the one-mile fun run event, which is co-sponsored by the LCU Criminal Justice Club.
“Our overall goal is to make a ripple effect in the world one person at a time,” Wise said.
“We want to better our campus, community, state, country and world by seeing people for who they are and loving them as Jesus has called us to do. It is nothing that most others are attempting to do. We just use the avenue of psychology and mental health to do it.”
Internationally, more than 750,000 lifetime members have joined giving them access to international recognition for academic excellence, including more than $400,000 in awards and grant money, and access to psychology-related publications.
