Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. People around the world are beginning to think how they will express love to someone. I should say women are thinking about it because men won’t start thinking about Valentine’s Day until after the Super Bowl. How do you express your love? Do you purchase a gift, have a special meal, give candy, or use words?
We can find some help in the Bible. 1 John 5:3 says we can show God that we love Him by keeping His commandments. It is important to God for us to do what He has told us to do. For instance, He has told us to love Him with “all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37) God has also told us that He owns it all including “the cattle on a thousand hills.” (Psalm 50:10) He has also told us to give above and beyond. (Leviticus 23:38)
God has given us direction to figure out what to give that special someone on Valentine’s Day. We are to love God by doing what is important to Him. Before Valentine’s Day, spend a little bit of time observing your special person to see what is important to that person. Then take action that relates to the important item.
I have spent the past 55 years observing the love of my life, my wife Marlene. I know what is important to her – family. Now I am trying to figure out how to find a house large enough to contain 18 people and three dogs. Maybe next year.
