Maybe it’s the drop in temperature outside that has awakened my preference for dining outside. Maybe it’s the outdoor fireplace that leads to the cozy beer garden equipped with a basketball goal, corn hole, and plenty of seating for the whole crew to partake in some refreshing beverages. It could be the friendly waitresses and welcoming bartenders who always seem to know what you will be having as soon as you walk through the door. Any way, the Broken Wheel Brewery has become one of my favorite places to “tie one on” and catch up with friends.
Although it’s raining outside today, a small group of us have gathered at the bar top to catch game three between the Astros and Yankees. Along with some good afternoon baseball, comes some good day drinking and some especially tasty food. In the spirit of “Taco Tuesday,” we’re having soft tacos piled high with Louisiana crawfish tails resting on a bed of fresh Asian coleslaw and topped with a spicy sriracha aioli. These tag team tacos are served up with a side of golden homemade onion rings. Under normal circumstances that would be plenty, but as Ms. Karley fixes up a lip-smacking, good margarita, Chef Jessica James sends out a generous helping of Fish Acadien. That’s fish seasoned and battered just right, swimming in a bath of mouth watering Crawfish Ettoufette, and served with rice.
The atmosphere inside and outside at Broken Wheel Brewery is electric. But don’t just take my word for it. Make your way down to Marksville to cheer on the Saints during Food Truck Sundays, where Broken Wheel transformers into a mini version of the Superdome. Have a pint and enjoy local food truck vendors or some special kitchen creations from head chef Jessica James and Roy Gilbeau, who joins us from Thibodaux, LA, with over 30 years experience in the kitchen. Lastly, let’s keep our fingers crossed for the Broken Wheel Brewery’s Barley Wine that has been aging in Jim Beam barrels and expected to make a limited appearance later this year.
