Central Louisiana has had many special visitors over the past century, everyone from Eisenhower to Bush, John Wayne to General Sherman, to Sean Penn to Huey Long. But one type of visitor was very different from all of the others. And that visitor was likely Aliens from Outer Space! (Did they also stay at the Bentley?)
This columnist has uncovered many never-before-read UFO reports from here that came from Project Blue Book. These reports were recorded at our former England Air Force Base. There are too many amazing reports (over a hundred) in my possession and too many incredible details to cover all here. So, for the first time, here are a selection of some of the formerly secret reports, summarized for brevity (I also removed the addresses and names):
(1) July 5, 1949- “Object appeared to be light in color with a luminous center of bright yellow. The shape of this object was round, flat on the edges, and thick in the center. The object disappeared behind trees and a building.”
This report, titled “Sighting of a Flying Disc,” said that Mrs. X who was living in downtown Alexandria said the UFO was “luminous grey with an amber light in center” and was “round like an inverted saucer.” The observer saw the UFO which passed directly over them for 30 seconds and said the “object traveled in a horizontal line throughout observation and seemed to be just floating along.”
The observer, who was described as a “housewife appearing of excellent character,” was sitting in the front yard of her home, “doing nothing in particular, just happened to look up as object appeared in sight.” It was also noted that the UFO was traveling at about 100 miles per hour.
(2) On July 7, 1949, a “civilian” watched a UFO hovering over Alexandria for 5 minutes. “Object appeared as a round light in the sky at approximately a 35 degree elevation. The object was orange in color with no visible means of support, it seem to fall a certain distance then move from North to West for about 2 ½ minutes, and then reverse its course and flew back in a northerly direction for 2 ½ minutes when it disappeared from view by gradually moving out of sight.”
These investigations, like all of the investigations found, were conducted at the direction of the Office of Special Investigations District of the U. S. Air Force. The report shows that at least 5 Alexandrians sighted a “flying saucer” over Alexandria on this same date. In one report, it said that the UFO is listed as “subversive activity.” This was during the “Red Scare.”
(3) According to another report, “On July 15, 1949, Mrs. Y revealed that she and Mr. and Mrs. Z were sitting on the front porch on Warshauer Street when Mrs. Y noticed a very bright object in the sky. The object seemed to be coming straight down and had the appearance and speed of a falling star with no evidence of exhaust and no sound. The object seemed to fall a certain distance and then move from north to west, parallel with the ground. The object went in a westerly direction for approximately 2½ minutes and, then reversed its path and flew back in a northerly direction for approximately 2½ minutes. The object then began to increase altitude, slightly to the north, and gradually faded from sight. The object had the appearance of being round and about 6 inches in diameter with no visible support or means of propulsion. The object maintained a very smooth, constant speed and did not vary. The object had the appearance of being a little like an ordinary household light bulb.”
Other witnesses that same date were contacted regarding their sighting of the same UFO. A postal carrier and his wife on Warshauer Street reported seeing a UFO that same night. They were sitting on their porch at home and saw “a round light in the sky which appeared to be about the size of an ordinary household saucer and was sighted at approximately a 35 degree angle from the ground.” One other witnesses also described “the object as being orange in color with no visible means of support, and remained in sight for approximately 5 minutes and disappeared by gradually moving out of sight …”
All of these reports contained detailed descriptions of the witnesses, lengthy witness statements and follow-up investigation of not only the UFOs, but the witnesses themselves. These full reports, with witnesses who were often then well-known in our
community, are some of the most fascinating documents that I have ever read!
This article will be continued in next month’s edition with even more incredible reports, if you dare to read them!
