RN-BSN $200/Hour

Trustees approve online RN to BSN

by Norm Miller

Louisiana College’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved an online RN to BSN degree offered at one of the lowest hourly rates in CENLA.

At $200 per credit hour for the degree, Louisiana College President Dr. Rick Brewer believes that “LC will soon help bridge the healthcare worker shortage in CENLA and beyond.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nurses (RNs) should expect to see the most significant amount of new job openings by 2026. More than 438,000 new RN jobs are projected to be added to the workforce within that time frame, surging from approximately 2.7 million jobs to 3.2 million.

However, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing reports that schools in the U.S. turned away 64,067 qualified nursing applicants due to insufficient faculty, clinical sites, classroom space and funding.

From conversations with local hospital leaders, Brewer related that the shortage of nurses is an ongoing problem needing a solution. “And we plan to be a significant part of that solution.”

Citing advantages gained through the college’s recent $2.2 million technology grant, Brewer said the “convenience, affordability, and flexibility a better online learning experience will provide should be attractive to working adults, especially.”

Brewer considers Louisiana College faculty “second to none. And when we add curricula that reflect the heart of the Great Physician, faith-based compassion emerges as a distinctive of our Vision of Preparing Graduates and Transforming Lives.”
