GREETINGS FROM PINEVILLE – FEBRUARY

by Doug Gann

We are excited for February and the events coming to our great City. Mardi Gras rolls along on February 14th this year, so grab your sweetheart and celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Pineville Night of Lights Mardi Gras Parade. Our Parade rolls at 7 pm from the entrance to Louisiana College and makes its way down Main Street towards Alexandria. Once again, it crosses the bridge into Alexandria and turns left heading to the Pineville Alexandria Mayoral toast between Mayor Clarence Fields and Mayor Jeff Hall. This tradition marks the unity between these two great cities.

This year we are excited to welcome home Cody Ford as our Grand Marshal. Cody is a Pineville High School graduate. He went on to play football for the Oklahoma Sooners and was a second round draft pick of the Buffalo Bills. Cody just finished up his Rookie season with a trip to the playoffs with the Bills. It will be great to have Cody back home to serve as our Grand Marshal and lead our beautiful Night of Lights Mardi Gras Parade. Mardi Gras Posters are available for purchase at City Hall in Pineville for $20.

February is also our first 5th Saturday Market of the year. This market is already a special one as it falls on LEAP DAY, February 29th! Join us on Main Street from 9am until 2 pm as we welcome arts and craft vendors, as well as local Food Trucks, music, dancers and a special visit from the folks at the SCA. They made an appearance at our Nov Market in 2019 and were a hit. This time they will have fightin demonstrations all throughout the day. Make sure to join us from 9 am – 2 pm Feb 29th for the kickoff to our 2020 5th Saturday Markets. Other markets are in May, August, and October.

Dates to remember for 2020 include, but not limited to:

March 27th Mayor’s Invitational Golf Tournament
May 2nd Dragon Boat Races
May 30th 5th Saturday Market
June 19-21 34th Annual LA State Disc Golf Championships
July 3rd Fireworks Over Buhlow

Many other events are in the works so stay tuned.

Also, please join us in congratulating Mayor Clarence Fields on his induction in to the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame. On February 15, 2020, Mayor Fields will be receive this great honor in Winnfield, LA on what promises to be a special evening. We will do a separate story on this honor, so be on the lookout.

Until next month, we invite you to check our events and look out for all of the great businesses opening up in Pineville, A Great Place to Call Home!
