When I say the words, Story Marks, most people have no idea what I’m talking about. Two years ago I was the same way. In fact, I can honestly say I had never really thought about why people chose to get a tattoo. I guess it was because I hadn’t known anyone personally who had one. I want to think I’m like most people, I stick to what I know, but all that changed when a local group I’m a part of decided to do something different called Story Marks. This local group, known as CWC – CenLa Women’s Connection, is a collection of women from different Christian denominations all around CenLa. Women who gather together to pray and do life together. CWC is a part of a nationwide interdenominational Christian Women’s Ministry called Stonecroft. You can find out more about them at https://www.stonecroft.org.
For Story Marks, we were asked to go out into the community and interview women who had tattoos. The idea was that behind every tattoo there’s a story. In return for each woman’s story, we arranged with two local photographers to give of their time and talents to take the models’ pictures. The pictures were then professionally developed and displayed during a gallery night at Willow Bench one cold night last February. What a night to remember with the old adage the truth sets you free coming to life as these stories and works of art were displayed and shared for all to appreciate.
