“G” is for Grateful

As I make my way through the alphabet with my columns, choosing “G is for Grateful” was not just a word I randomly decided to explore, but one that my family has experienced to the very depths of our beings, as of late. While it seems that winter has left our area, I think we all look around and see more and more families that have needs, brought on by a myriad of circumstances. These families are often having to go through seasons in their lives that are not full of flowers and sunshine. However, in every circumstance, if we look close enough, we can see a silver lining. We watch families helping other families. We watch how social media, can be used in a way to bring about love and support to families in need, sometimes with benefits and sometimes through kind words and prayers. It is through these incredible acts of selfless kindness, where all boundaries and differences are put aside, for which I am most grateful.

I have had many friends from high school, whom I have not seen since, reach out to me. I have watched friends, supported friends, as they each fight through different battles, and while it pains me to watch these things, I find such comfort in knowing that in a world that seems to have lost its way a bit, that love still wins. Over the past several months, I have written about friendships and I have encouraged you to write and tell people what they mean to you. The love and support given to my own family … well, it has meant more than you could ever imagine.

So I challenge you to go out into this community and love those who are hurting, help where you can, and remember to always be grateful for each day that you are given on this earth.
